A couple months ago I set a goal to double the mileage of my scooter, before the end of this season. The then 9 -year old scoot had just under 2900 miles on it when I bought it last July.
I’ve been painfully close to that goal, and while it was awfully chilly this morning (39 degrees), the sun was out and I knew it would be near 60 this afternoon, so I layered up and sent it. The odometer ticked over 5800 miles just before I got to school. Then this afternoon, I cut out right at contract time (something I rarely do), and rode another 30 miles around my favorite twisty neighborhoods. Not a bad way to spend a sunny fall afternoon!
I hope we get a few more warmi sh days this fall, but if this turns out to be my last ride of the season, it was a damn good one.
I'd love to roll 6k miles before the cold really sets in, but time will tell. I really don't enjoy riding when it's below 40.

I’
ll have to get one if I import a Piaggio Ape...even the Tm with the car controls (steering wheel, clutch, floor-mounted 4-spd manual)
is categorized as a motorcycle here because it has three wheels!

Always gotta savor the chilly rides since they might be the last of the season.
The KLR and I went adventuring last weekend while it was in the low 60s. Beautiful sights and a good ride meant I’m okay if it’s the last one for the year ...But I’m hoping for another freak 70 degree day like two years ago when we had a high of 75 in november.

Yes, it's definitely important to cherish these last chilly rides. I'm hoping for a few more freak warm days too, but I've already ridden two weeks longer than last year.

I don't even have a reserve pickup on my cub. Gonna have to keep a canteen of fuel on it or something.

Not a bad idea. Although once you get a feel for your range, you should have a good idea of when you need to tank up. Range on mine is only about 100 miles.
